Write About Off Grid Topics and Earn $$$

Write for Living Off GridThings have been hectic around here lately and I haven’t had as much time as I used to for writing, so I’ve decided to try and commission some content. If you live off grid, have lived off the grid in the past, know a lot about renewable energy, or just have a story or how-to you think our readers would like – let us know! We can’t pay much ($15 an article via Paypal) but you could just talk about what you know and it doesn’t have to win a Pulitzer.

If you’re interested just leave a comment below with your email address and we’ll get in touch. Below are our simple writer’s guidelines:

  1. Content must be about topics of interest to visitors of this website.
  2. Content must be original and exclusive.
  3. Content must be over 300 words.
  4. Content must be written by you.

  1. Solar energy is of vital interest to me as that is what I have been using, solely for the past 8+ years.

  2. I have stories about living off grid when I was growing up. I’m not very old either. My family lived in a cabin built by hippies. That says it all.

  3. I am a retired State & Internationally Certified Real Estate Appraiser and I have been living completely off-grid for six years. No Problems. However, I must warn you that mortgage financing is not available, period. The Banks and Credit Unions rely fully on FNMA and FDMC mortgagees, and their underwriting rules specifically prohibit off-grid financing.

As a retired real estate appraiser, I can remember estimating the DISCOUNT (loss of value) associated with the valuation of rural land when there was no mortgage financing. The discounts ranged from 15% to 60%, and the mid-point was in the neighborhood of 45%. So this means that if a comparable property in your neighborhood, that is on the grid, sells, your property is probably worth about 45% less.

Something to think about, and I would sure like some feedback on this subject so I can research it a little more.

  4. We are planning a wall tent living situation. I would love to write about our decision to move off grid, maybe even a series (we have a blog, but who wants to read a 500 word blog posting?) of the ups and downs and how we make it through.

My first submission would definetly be about how considering living off grid has changed our energy usage in our current home as we prepare for our journey. You don’t realize just how much you DON’T need that extra light on until you realize how much time and vital energy it’s going to cost you when you go off-grid. Might be a good read for both off-grid livers and on-grid folks looking to be more conscious of their own energy usage.

  5. well for one thing , i like this website, and i think that as we all learn we should share it freely with each other,i spent my early years living off the grid, and spent my later years livng on the grid and in the city,we i will tell you which i prefer, i miss living as i did when i was young,i have forgotten somethings but i’m sure i wil learn them again and even more,i ‘m buying 15 acres,of virgin woods, i’m going to try and return to my roots.so i will gladly share the little i know and learn with others and would the same in return.
