Urban Fly Fishing in Denver

I read an article in the Wall Street Journal last week about these guys. They’re called Primal Fly and they’re all about “brownlining” or, in laymens terms, urban fly fishing.

rainbow-troutWhile PrimalFly is catching and releasing for sport, I have to wonder about the edibility of these fish. If they’re just passing through an urban portion of a river or stream, they might actually be about as pure as their mountain brothers.

Nevermind the graffiti, half-sunken shopping carts, floating plastic bottles and the occasional crazy bum jumping out at you – catching large, dinner-table-sized fish in the middle of the city is apparently something worth trying.

big-ass-carpFor those of you brave enough to eat carp, there’s plenty of monsters lurking around in urban areas. Take a look at this ugyly thing out of the Platte River in downtown Denver.

For the Primal Fly crew, self-proclaimed “Hooligans of Brownlining”, it’s just another day of reeling in big slobs like this.

  1. What a beautiful rainbow!!

  2. Good looking fish but I don’t think I could eat out of the Platte!

  3. I’m with Derec. I live quite near the platte and, while it’s a lovely fish, you couldn’t pay me enough to eat it.

  4. That is a nice cutt!
