Starting a Microbusiness From Home – An eBook Review
The couple who runs one of my favorite homesteading blogs, The Walden Effect, have come out with an eBook to help other’s reach a balance between economic freedom and The Good Life by starting a microbusiness from home.

I had a chance to read the book and was impressed by their level of Internet-marketing savvy. Since I make my living with Internet marketing and am a homesteading soontobe, this ebook reminded me that the two skills really do complement each other. As more high-speed internet connections make their way into rural America, I’m hopeful that many of the economic disparities that exist between rural and suburban areas will cease to exist.
But that was just one chapter… Microbusiness Independence also discusses everything from idea conceptualization and budgeting to shipping rates and taxes. It has to cover a lot of ground so is more broad than deep, but shares resources about each topic should you require more information.
The book is realistic and upfront about expectations. The authors are not trying to teach you how to get rich quick. The idea of starting a Microbusiness is more about working less and enjoying life more than it is about making heaps of cash. Furthermore, the authors walk-the-walk and are speaking from experience. I know lots of “learn how to make money from home” eBook authors who barely scrape by, or who are only sharing strategies that no longer work. That’s the thing about get-rich-quick books: If the author really does make hundreds-of-thousands or millions with his/her “tips,” why would they sell them for a few bucks per download?
If you want to gradually build up enough of an income stream to quit your full time job and take your financial freedom into your own hands, this may be the book for you. Expect to make a decent living and enjoy life. Don’t expect to get rich.
If you want to “get rich quick” and retire in the Bahamas, I know a few late-night infomercial snake-oil salesmen who would be happy to take your money.

Starting a micro business is very empowering to those who want to live off the grid. They don’t need to rely on the government for financial help; they don’t need to rely on a boss for a paycheck… If you live in the country, don’t connect to the power lines and have your own water source, you’re still not really “off the grid” if you have to drive into town for work every day.
