Looking for Rural Land in Oregon?
In search of our perfect off-grid homestead parcel, our short list was North Carolina, Northern California (Shashta county) and Southern Oregon (anywhere below Portland and central or West of the Cascades). Northern California has pretty much been taken off the list unless we find a killer deal. We can’t seem to find a good agent in North Carolina, although we love the looks of the Boone and Asheville areas if we can get something cheap enough outside of town.
But we did end up finding a stellar agent in Oregon who has been researching these properties with the experience of someone who knows their way around rural land deals like the back of their hand. Her name is Terri Fiyalko and you can learn about her Portland-based rural Oregon real estate business here. She has helped us so much that I wanted to share her services with our readers. If you are looking to go off-grid in Oregon THIS is the place to go.

If I could pick up and leave tomorrow I’d be heading for N.C. or Oregon – you can’t go wrong with either choice!
Wow, Off Grid Ebert… what kind words from you! I had no idea you would give me such a stellar endorsement. I am humbled by your unsolicited praise, and give my profuse thanks for your courtesy.
Best,
Terri
BTW, Off Grid… I am so impressed with your alternative power links and new/upcoming site, I’ve linked to you off my main page. I have many that ask for this type of info, so you are a godsend “one-stop-shop”. Look forward to more site development.

Hi, My husband and I are interested in moving to the Olympia, Wa area.
We live in a manufactured here in AZ and have an acre and a 1/4.
Do you know of anything like that? Horse property?
Off the grid would be great. Well?
We need some prices please.
Thanks in advance, Michelle Willis
I am interested in a southern oregon property and would be curious to know if one is allowed to inhabit their land in a motorhome or rv while figuring out what and where to build on the land… Thank You for your info in advance…Bill
looking for land in southern oregon
I would like some acreage in Southern Oregon to get off of the grid as well as build a home that would be eco freindly.
Thanks alot for you information and endorsement. I am relocating to Oregon and was looking for property build or convert to “off the grid” living. Now I have a contact to help in my search…thanks for your invaluable advice.
Living in Bend, OR. Looking for some raw, bare land, about an acre to grow off-grid some food within 30 mi from residence. Need good southern exposure and water with reasonable road access and more soil than rock.
Still have all my Whole Earth Catalogs. Little outdated but relevant non the less. Looking at Southern OR as close to the coast as possible. Done with snow forever! Be just me, wife not into this sort of thing. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
LarryC
I live in Southern Oregon and it is the best!
I am looking for property w/ good well in S. Oregon.
Only need an acre or two. Root cellar or foundation
already in would be a plus.
My husband and I are looking for cheap rural land to build our tumbleweed home on. Will probably need to live in trailer on the site while building. Have very limited funds but can do small down payment and per month would have to come from my child support payments. Is this even possible? Were not dead set on a particular location, but off grid, green building, farming and animals aa must. Will need to be near town to have part time employment temporarly…please advise…were anxious to get started.
Hello Leanna,
You might also want to post something like this in the Communities section of our new forums at http://www.livingoffgrid.org/forum/. It requires making an account, but that’s free.
I have some rural property listed for sale out off of Highway 36 just East of the Oregon Coast on the other side of the mountain barrier. 18.98 acres of privacy and wildlife ready for someone to build a beautiful gettaway. There are water rights from a creek that runs through the property and electricity is already run. Cute and cozy little log cabin really adds the rustic charm. Make an offer and live in nature.

If you’re lucky, AND you pay out the nose, AND you claim a medical necessity, you just MIGHT get a permit to do that.
Assuming of course that the place already has a septic (several thousand dollars just for exploration and permits) and a well (can easily run 10k). Spring? Ha, good luck legally taking water from one!
Western Oregon, especially Lane, is about the worst place in the world to build or squat or camp…which is too bad, because it’s BEAUTIFUL. Don’t even bother visiting a rural property with no permitted house unless you’re prepared to drop tens of thousands of dollars in cash before starting work. And if it’s zoned anything to do with “forest” or “farm”…well, prepare for several years of hellish bureaucracy and expense, at the end of which they may simply say “Sorry, not buildable”
I am a paralyzed veteran who has off grid property for sale on the southwestern Oregon Coast. It is located in rural Coos County, more specifically close to Coos Bay as well being not far away from the Bandon area. If you have an interest, please feel free to send me an e-mail and I can give you more information about the property. I grew up in this area and I can think of no better environment to raise children or retire in. You may have to adjust to peace and quiet, with the exception of the birds and the “barking,” of seals and sea lions. I look forward to chatting with anyone interested in getting out of the rat race and living off the grid.
Joe, can you give more details about your property for sale?
there is no such thing as semi rural land in Eugene, it is all urban. That is because it has high property crime rate, a great deal of drug dealing, methedrine production, heroin addicts, a large gay population, and every other thing you can think of that exists in urban areas.a huge amount of people from New York City, and urban Los Angeles have moved here and pushed out all the original population. So if you have lived in either of those places, you will probably know everyone. So I don’t know where this idea of “semi rural Eugene” came from. This is a very URBAN area, like a city, with high traffic congestion and smog.we also have a great deal of homeless living everywhere. So if you’re looking for big-city problems, Eugene certainly has them.
If you look around some times you can find about an achre and a half for around $2500 to $4500. I would suggest setting a yurt on the property just because the state of Oregon is more suseptible to letting one do so. Make sure to check all codes before purchase as codes can get sticky. As for a toilet the lesser expensive and more eco-friendly way to go is compost toilets. Good luck and hope you all find what your looking for

Hello, My husband and I were interested in what is available in Southern Oregon. A spot that is not too cold in winter and not too hot in Summer, in other words perfect! Ha. A small place that some animals could be raised and room for a garden. Hopefully with water already existing. Off the grid, but a short distance from hospital. Do you have anything? Thank You!
