Finding Your Watershed
Most people don’t know anything about their watershed here in the United States. We turn on the tap and the water flows. But those who live along rivers, on lakes, or who depend on deep wells for their water have a vested interest in the health and maintenance of their watershed.
Thanks to the Prairie Roots blog, I was inspired to visit the EPA’s “Surf Your Watershed” website and find out more about organizations working to protect and maintain the sources of water that sustain the life of my family.
Water will become a much larger issue in the coming decades, which is why we are looking for land outside of Colorado. It is a shame such a beautiful place has to be so darn dry…

Glad I could inspire someone else to look up the watershed information! You have an awesome website here, by the way. And if you’re still looking for some homesteading land, consider South Dakota! There’s some wonderful land here (people, too!).
This is a little bit off topic, but I found it to be interesting.
I was involved in a discussion about water conservation recently and was told about a car dealer that put barrels under their down spouts and was capturing rain water to wash cars with on the car lot. Local authorites put a stop to it saying they did nto have rights to the water.
Go figure.
Water is one of the oldest fights.
